為何夜巡這鎮館之寶會出現畫作被裁切的”窘”境 ? 1642年之後到底發生什麼......
林布蘭1642年完成，完成《夜巡》後，依約被安置在民兵隊總部的廳。1715年，畫作遷往當時位於水壩廣場（Dam Square）的阿姆特丹市政廳。，由於預計懸掛的牆面尺寸不合，畫布直接遭到裁剪俏皮吧!!說cut就cut完全不手軟。

對照現藏於倫敦國家畫廊（National Gallery, London），由同時代荷畫家格理特．盧登斯（Gerrit Lundens）所繪製的《夜巡》複刻版，看出現今原作的邊緣明顯有部份構圖缺失，被裁切的部份則被遺棄，此下落不明。

1. TWO MILITIAMEN
The broadest strip was cut from the left side of The Night Watch, with the result that two militiamen and the boy behind the man holding a halberd in the reconstruction no longer appear in the original painting (second illustration).
兩個民兵
最寬的條帶是從《守夜人》的左側剪下的，結果重建中兩名民兵和手持戟的男子身後的男孩不再出現在原畫中（第二幅圖）。
2. THE BRIDGE
The missing piece on the left also included a railing that the powder boy is holding onto, suggesting that the group of men were walking over a bridge,perhaps advancing into the city on patrol.
左邊缺失的部分還包括一個火藥男孩正抓著的欄杆，表明這群人正在走過一座橋，可能是在巡邏時進入城市。
3. TO THE RIGHT
In the reconstructed image, the two most important militiamen, Capt Frans Banninck Cocq and Lt Willem van Ruytenburch, are standing to the right of centre rather than at the centre of the painting, substantially increasing the dynamism and sense of movement in the painting.

4. FLAG
As well as from the side, a strip was cut from the top of the painting. Take a look at the second illustration, showing The Night Watch, and you will notice that the tip of the flag is not visible. In the reconstructed version, however, it has been restored.

5. KEYSTONE

6. HELMET
A strip was also cut from the right side of the original painting. 7. SHADOW
The round projecting shadow on the reconstruction is closer to the edge of the painting in the second illustration, so clearly a strip was also removed from the bottom of The Night Watch.
